The largest Direct Air Capture (DAC) system in South America is in operation.
DACMA comissioned the 1st commercial DAC system in Porto Alegre
DACMA’s first industrialized DAC system with a capacity of capturing 300 tonnes CO2 per year was successfully commissioned and handed over to the customer PUCRS IPR in the last few weeks. The plant, consisting of 5 units, was built in Hamburg, Germany, shipped to Brazil and put into operation at the PUCRS IPR campus (Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul) in Porto Alegre.
A first small prototype of this system with a capacity of 15 tonnes per year has been running smoothly 24/7 at the customer’s site since 19 April 2024 and the industrial DAC system has now completed the order.
The purpose of these DAC systems is the characterization of adsorbent materials, scale up and storage of the captured CO2.
We are very excited to accompany the next steps and continue our extensive work in South America for Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS) applications.
This is a first step towards the scale up of a DAC system with a capacity of 5,000 tonnes per year in Salvador de Bahia, where we have already signed a MOU and carried out a feasibility study.
Thanks to our team and to everyone involved at PUCRS IPR for the strong and ongoing support.
