Groundbreaking ceremony – From vision to reality: building the DACMA Competence Center
Groundbreaking for the new DACMA Competence Center in the Port of Hamburg marks a major step in scaling Direct Air Capture technology. At the event, DACMA announced a strategic partnership with Deep Sky to supply DAC systems for a major carbon removal project in Canada, underscoring Hamburg’s role as a hub for industrial innovation and international climate cooperation.
About the Center

The DACMA Competence Center is the research and development facility of DACMA GmbH, located at the port of Hamburg, Germany. Scheduled to open in fall 2026, the center will serve as a dedicated hub for the development, construction and on-site deployment of modular Direct Air Capture (DAC) systems for international markets.
The DAC system in operation at the site is powered by solar and efuels and operates in a climate-neutral manner, demonstrating DACMA’s commitment to sustainable and scalable carbon removal solutions.
With its location at one of Europe’s key industrial hubs, the DACMA Competence Center serves as a platform for technological innovation, pilot deployment and international collaboration in the growing field of direct air capture systems.
PEGASUS
PEGASUS – a lighthouse project for Hamburg
The Competence Center’s first major project is PEGASUS, a joint initiative between DACMA GmbH, Lother GmbH and TUHH Hamburg University of Technology. This collaboration brings together expertise from engineering, science and industrial operations to accelerate the commercialization and integration of DAC technologies within existing port infrastructure.
Our Commitment
With Direct Air Capture, we can extract large quantities of green raw materials for synthetic fuels and at the same time permanently remove CO2 from the cycle. With PEGASUS, we will strengthen our DAC technology developed and built in Hamburg in the face of international competition.
